Evacuation of residents from the village of Mamyr in the Aktobe region has begun due to the threat of flooding caused by rising water levels in the Torgai River. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan has stated that the evacuation is being carried out by helicopter from Mamyr to the Irgiz district. So far, 33 people have been evacuated, including 24 children.
To protect settlements from flooding and to manage floodwaters, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has started construction on 20 reservoirs in 11 regions. These measures come in response to the most significant floods in Kazakhstan in the past 80 years.
