Kazakhstan's National Security Committee Reports Success in Anti-Drug Operations

The National Security Committee has released its report on the fight against drug trafficking for the first quarter of 2024. According to the committee, over 50 special operations have been conducted since the beginning of the year.

In a statement dated April 12, 2024, the Committee announced that in the first quarter of 2024, they carried out 53 operations to combat the illegal drug trade, including 16 in collaboration with relevant foreign authorities.

The results of these operations include the dismantling of 18 international and 9 regional drug supply channels, as well as the shutdown of 10 underground drug laboratories. In total, over 800 kg of narcotics and psychotropic substances, 4 tons of poppy straw raw materials, and more than 10 tons of chemical reagents used in the production of synthetic drugs have been seized.

The Committee's press service highlighted that the street value of the confiscated drugs is estimated to be over 5 billion tenge, with the prevented volume amounting to approximately 4 million individual doses.

The National Security Committee is currently conducting pre-trial investigations involving 72 Kazakhstani citizens and foreigners suspected of involvement in international drug trafficking.

In another development on April 10, 2024, it was reported that the National Security Committee discovered over 90 liters of methamphetamine in Cola.
