in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

In preparation for the peak floods, authorities in West Kazakhstan Region have intensified protection measures for key facilities and mobilized all forces to ensure the city's water supply.

According to the press service of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, a comprehensive set of flood protection measures has been organized at the facilities of Batys Su Arnasy LLP, Zhaiykteploenergo JSC, and at the pumping station.

Water supply in Uralsk comes from two sources: underground wells and the Ural River. The communal enterprise Batys Su Arnasy, which provides water to 340,000 city residents, is currently operating normally with necessary water reserves and purification agents. Emergency crews, consisting of 820 employees and 82 specialized vehicles, are on standby.

To prevent flooding of strategic facilities along the Zhaiyk River, flood protection works are being carried out to reinforce the dam. Adequate measures have been taken to ensure the city's water supply, including a fleet of water trucks for water delivery.

Zhaiykteploenergo is responsible for over 248 km of urban heating. As part of flood protection efforts, areas prone to flooding are being filled with sand-gravel mix. The operations involve 180 personnel and 15 pieces of specialized equipment. In West Kazakhstan Region, there are over 20,000 km of electrical networks, with 20 substations in four districts and 16 in Uralsk, all located in elevated areas to prevent flooding. Precautionary measures are being taken, including the use of sandbags and earthworks. Emergency crews, consisting of 1,400 employees and 140 units of specialized equipment, are prepared.

Flood protection measures are also in place to safeguard the pumping station on the Zhaiyk River, which supplies water to ZhaiykTeploEnergo and drinking water to around 60,000 cubic meters daily. The station is a strategic asset, hence protective measures like sandbagging are being implemented.

In West Kazakhstan Region, forces have been mobilized as part of the preparations for the upcoming flood peak. Over 6,300 personnel and 1,500 units of equipment are involved in flood protection activities in the region, including measures to strengthen residential areas.

On April 15, it was announced that all efforts and resources have been mobilized by the government to divert floodwaters from populated areas and minimize flood damage in West Kazakhstan Region.
