Kazakhstan Security Committee Announces Successful Drug Channel Busts

The Committee of National Security (CNS) of Kazakhstan revealed today, on April 17, 2024, about a thwarted drug channel. According to the release, the regional drug supply channel was eliminated by CNS Department employees in the Kyzylorda region and Baikonur, under the coordination of the prosecutor's office.

"In March 2024, in Kyzylorda, five Kazakh citizens were detained while attempting to sell 3.5 kg of opium. Additionally, during further operations, an underground laboratory for illegal cultivation of cannabis was uncovered," the statement said.

The detained individuals have been remanded in custody with the court's sanction. "Pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Part 2 of Article 300 and Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan. Other information is not subject to disclosure in accordance with Part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Kazakhstan."

On April 16, 2024, it was reported that under the coordination of the regional prosecutor's office, the police and CNS near Almaty conducted a joint special operation to dismantle a large laboratory producing synthetic drugs. During the operation, a drug laboratory was discovered in a country house, allegedly managed by a 22-year-old woman from Almaty.
