in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

Recently, messages containing threats of terrorist attacks in schools and a shopping center in the capital have been circulating on messaging platforms. The Police Department has responded to these threats, as reported.

A channel has emerged on social media where unknown individuals are discussing planned shootings in schools and a bomb threat at a shopping center.

Seeking clarification, we reached out to the Astana Police Department for a comment. They stated that the information being circulated does not correspond to reality and that educational institutions have been inspected by relevant authorities. The department urges residents to remain calm and rely solely on official information.

It was emphasized that spreading knowingly false information about an impending act of terrorism is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to 5 years.

Similar threats were reported in early 2024 in other regions of the country, including schools in Aktobe, Atyrau, Astana, and Pavlodar. The Ministry of Internal Affairs had commented on those cases at the time.
