in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

Vice Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbaev has instructed the transfer of an additional 500 military personnel and rescuers to the West Kazakhstan region to combat the peak of flooding. According to the government's press service, 200 personnel from the Emergency Situations Ministry and the Defense Ministry have already arrived in Uralsk and begun their work.

Bozumbaev inspected flood protection structures around Uralsk and ordered the raising of earthen dams along rivers in flood risk areas. The situation in rural areas of West Kazakhstan is stable and under control, with over 136 km of dams constructed in the region since the start of the flooding period.

On the morning of April 21, 2024, the water level in the Zhaiyk River exceeded the critical mark by 8.5 meters, leading to flooding in dacha areas and approaching residential neighborhoods near the Zhaiyk and Shagan rivers. Flood prevention measures in Uralsk are being carried out intensively to mitigate the impact.

The efforts to combat the strongest floods in Kazakhstan in the last 80 years are ongoing, with additional updates available for those interested in the latest developments.
