Efforts continue to extinguish a natural fire along the Caspian Sea coast in the Kurmangazinsky forestry area, Kazakhstan

The firefighting operations are ongoing in the Kurmangazinsky forestry area, 40 km from the village of Kurmangazy in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan reported that reed is smoldering on 148 hectares of hard-to-reach swampy terrain, complicating the extinguishing process.

The total area affected by the fire is 2500 hectares, with 277 hectares already extinguished by the emergency services and 2075 hectares self-liquidated. There is no threat to residential areas. The firefighting efforts involve the forces and resources of the emergency services, forestry, and 56 people from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, along with 9 motor pumps and 11 motor boats.

On March 4, 2024, the Emergency Services of the Atyrau region reported a fire outbreak on the Caspian Sea coast, affecting 1000 hectares of reed vegetation.
