The Committee of National Security of Kazakhstan is investigating the information about the deaths of Kazakhstani citizens during a counter-terrorism operation in Russia. According to Russian authorities, they were killed while attempting to organize a terrorist attack on Russian territory.
"The Kazakhstani citizenship and the departure of these individuals to Russia have been confirmed. The National Security Committee is conducting a pre-trial investigation into this fact," stated the KNB. The investigation is being carried out in close cooperation with the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), as mentioned by the committee. No further information was provided by the KNB.
Earlier, reports in the media circulated about the deaths of two Kazakhstani citizens during an FSB counter-terrorism operation. According to Russian media, members of the "Vilayat Khorasan" (an affiliate of the Islamic State) were planning an armed attack on a Moscow synagogue. It is reported that the suspects resisted and were "neutralized by return fire."
