In the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan, it was reported that three individuals suspected of propagating terrorism have been detained. The National Security Committee, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor's Office, apprehended the alleged radicals on May 2-3 in Astana and Pavlodar.

"They are suspected of propagating terrorism and participating in the activities of a religious-extremist organization banned in the country. During the searches, religious literature and other material evidence were seized," the statement said.

The suspects had previously been convicted of committing serious criminal and extremist offenses. They are now undergoing pre-trial investigation under Articles 256 ("Propaganda of terrorism or public calls for terrorist acts") and 405 ("Organization and participation in the activities of a public or religious association or other organization after a court decision to ban their activities or liquidate them due to their involvement in extremism or terrorism") of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan.

No further information is disclosed at this time. Earlier, the National Security Committee revealed how they had thwarted the supply of Afghan drugs through Kazakhstan to Europe.
