in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported a gathering of melted water in Abay, triggered by the sudden snowmelt in the Tarbagatay mountain range. The overflowing water has crossed the road surface 11 km away from the village of Makanchi, leading to a halt in traffic. Specialists are on site, addressing the situation.

Currently, monitoring is ongoing, with reassurances from the authorities that there is no threat of flooding to residential areas. In the village of Bakhty, a 2 km stretch of melted water has accumulated along the Taskesken-Bakhty highway, due to the warming weather and rapid snowmelt from the Tarbagatay range.

Efforts are being made to divert traffic in the Abay region, with warning signs being placed. Over 50 personnel and 4 pieces of machinery are actively working on site, with additional teams from the Ayagoz emergency rescue squad and the fire department of Makanchi village dispatched to assist.

Further reinforcements from Semey, including around 25 personnel and over 10 pieces of equipment from the Abay regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, have been deployed to the affected areas. Prior warnings from meteorologists about potential flooding in Eastern Kazakhstan have been heeded, prompting swift response actions to mitigate risks and ensure public safety.
