in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

The Ministry of Emergency Situations has reported on the ongoing monitoring work ahead of the flood season. Specialists from the State Inspectorate for Environmental and Water Resources "Kazselzashchita" conducted aerial inspections of the riverbeds in the Almaty region.

They flew by helicopter from the Talgar River basin to the Shelek River basin (Ile and Kungey Alatau ridges).

According to the MES, the aerial survey revealed the following:

Glacial lakes are in their winter mode. There are no signs of negative impact on the state of glacial lakes following a series of earthquakes in February and March. The water levels in the lakes are significantly below maximum marks.

There are no significant fresh snow avalanche releases.

The riverbeds of potentially hazardous rivers are clean, and no significant blockages were found. There is non-intensive snowmelt in the foothills.

Significant snow reserves are present in the foothills and highlands.

Active flood preparation is underway in Eastern Kazakhstan. Civil defense services in the region are on high alert. Rescuers have urged residents to prepare for snowmelt.
