On May 18, 2024, the National Security Committee (KNB) of Kazakhstan made an important statement regarding the situation on the border with Kyrgyzstan.
In the statement released, it was clarified that the information circulating in some media about groups of Pakistani students intending to cross from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan following the night-time unrest in Bishkek does not correspond to reality.
The KNB emphasized that the border checkpoints on the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan state border are operating normally. There is a continuous exchange of information between the border guards of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan regarding the evolving situation in the city.
The press service of the KNB of the Republic of Kazakhstan stated that the spontaneous protest in Bishkek on the night of May 17 to May 18, 2024, stemmed from a conflict between local residents and foreigners in one of the hostels in the Kyrgyz capital.
As a result of the overnight incidents in Bishkek, 29 people sought medical assistance.
The prompt response and communication between the authorities of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan underline the commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
