The Emergency Situations Department of the Atirau region reported on March 4, 2024, that a fire had broken out on the Caspian Sea coast, affecting an area of 1000 hectares. The incident occurred 40 kilometers from the village of Kurmangazy, within the Kurmangazy Forestry Enterprise. Fortunately, there was no threat to the nearby residential area.
A helicopter MI-8 from the Kazaviaspas Search and Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was deployed for aerial reconnaissance on March 4. The fire affected a marshy area where reed vegetation was smoldering across 20 hectares. Of the total burnt area, 200 hectares were extinguished by the Emergency Situations Department, and 780 hectares self-extinguished.
The firefighting operation involved 37 personnel, one piece of equipment, four motor pumps, and three motor boats from the Emergency Situations Department of the Atirau region and the Kurmangazy Forestry Enterprise. Efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing, with challenges arising from the inaccessible terrain and marshy conditions hindering the suppression of the reed.
