Kazakhstan Police Successfully Combat Internet Fraud, Recover Millions

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan has revealed significant progress in combating internet fraud. Police officers are working closely with banks and mobile operators to tackle the issue directly.

According to the department, approximately 246 million tenge has been blocked during the stage of transferring funds abroad, with damages amounting to 850 million tenge successfully compensated. Moreover, over 44 million international calls from spoofed numbers, commonly used by scammers, have been intercepted, resulting in a 2.5-fold decrease in the number of victims.

On March 4th, during a session in the Mazhilis, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aidos Rysbayev highlighted the increasing trend of internet fraud in Kazakhstan. In 2023 alone, Kazakh citizens suffered damages totaling 21 billion tenge due to fraudulent activities.

Efforts to combat cybercrime and protect citizens from online scams continue to be a top priority for law enforcement agencies in Kazakhstan, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring a safer digital environment for all residents.
