in News / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Zaparov, has initiated the construction of an eco-technological plant for electricity production with solid household waste utilization in Bishkek. The government head emphasized the city's environmental challenges and ongoing efforts to address air pollution, including gasification of residential areas, transitioning autonomous boiler houses to gas, procuring eco-friendly public transport, and planting over 600,000 greenery as part of the "Green Legacy" initiative.

Zaparov highlighted the importance of the waste processing plant in Bishkek and announced the commencement of the power plant's construction, along with purification systems, residential areas, and sports facilities. The government prioritizes constructing waste processing plants in seven regions and two cities, allocating funds for Karakol and Jalal-Abad's urban development last year.

Currently, a large-scale waste incineration plant is under construction in Jalal-Abad, while a $135 million incineration plant in Karakol is being built by a Belarusian company. The planned waste processing plant at the landfill site aims to handle approximately 850 tons of waste daily, featuring incinerators, electricity generators, purification systems, residential spaces, and sports facilities.

The completion of the plant is scheduled for November 2025, contributing significantly to Kyrgyzstan's environmental sustainability and waste management efforts.
