Construction of Waste-to-Energy Plant and Road Rehabilitation Projects in Bishkek

in News / Kyrgyzstan - by

The city of Bishkek has initiated the construction of a waste-to-energy plant that will generate electricity from burning trash, aiming to process around 850 tons of waste daily. The facility will include waste treatment systems, residential areas, and sports facilities, with plans to commence operations in November 2025.

In November 2023, the Mayor of Bishkek, Aybek Junushaliev, and the CEO of Junxin Dai Daoguo company signed a cooperation agreement for the production of electricity through waste incineration.

Moreover, the municipal authorities are planning extensive road reconstruction projects on several key streets, including Chui Avenue, Abdurakhmanova/Baytik Baatyr, Ahunbaeva, Gorky, Yunusaliyev, and Jibek Jolu Avenue, with the expansion of roads. Additionally, three new bridges will be constructed, along with three new road crossings over the railway.

To address environmental concerns, the municipal inspection of Bishkek identified and fined four cases of illegal waste burning between March 25 and 28. According to the Violations Code, individuals face fines of 7,500 soms, while legal entities are fined 23,000 soms for such violations.

In a heartwarming initiative, Mayor Aybek Junushaliev handed over apartment keys to underprivileged children under the special category of "orphans" for housing improvement. The act aligns with the Housing Code, which prioritizes housing provision to children in need, including orphans and those left without parental care, upon leaving educational or social institutions, foster families, or child care facilities.
