During a session of the parliamentary committee on fuel and energy complex, subsoil use, and industrial policy, Deputy Kunduzbek Sulaimanov raised concerns about reports of staff layoffs at the National Energy Supply Company (NESC).
He questioned the NESC director about the truth behind the layoffs, specifically mentioning workers with specialized skills like fitters being let go due to low salaries. The General Director of NESC, Altynbek Rysbekov, acknowledged the issue, stating that the company currently employs 10,409 staff with over 300 vacant positions.
Rysbekov disclosed that in the past year, 500-600 employees had been laid off, attributing it to the low wages. Sulaimanov requested information on the vacant positions and the reasons behind the staff turnover before the next committee meeting.
The NESC director explained that the company's funding is tied to electricity tariffs, with the majority of the budget allocated to equipment repairs and construction projects, leaving insufficient funds for salaries. The financial constraints have led to the ongoing staff layoffs, highlighting a pressing issue that needs to be addressed within the company.
