Bishkek Mayor Announces Restoration of Ataturk Park Boundaries and Removal of Illegal Constructions

in News / Kyrgyzstan - by

During a press conference, Bishkek Mayor Aybek Junushaliev revealed that a total of 198 objects were identified in Ataturk Park. He mentioned that a resolution was signed to approve the park's boundaries covering 107 hectares. Additionally, 43 hectares of land designated for construction are to be returned to the park.

The municipal departments have been tasked with reclaiming the park's land within the 1992 boundaries and dismantling any illegally constructed properties within the park. The mayor emphasized the need to revoke previous decisions related to land allocation since 1992.

Junushaliev stated that the municipality's goal is to bring everything within the legal framework and established boundaries. Legal actions will be taken to address issues of demolition and compensation for damages, involving law enforcement and the courts.

Ataturk Park, originally established as a botanical garden in the late 1950s, has undergone various transformations over the years. In the 1990s, parts of the park were developed with residential buildings, leading to controversies in the 2000s regarding land sales to high-ranking officials or their relatives for personal housing.

The mayor highlighted the importance of adhering to the law and ensuring that the park's integrity is preserved. Measures will be taken to halt any further construction within the park's territory and notify residents accordingly. The municipality is committed to upholding the park's historical significance and maintaining it as a recreational space for the public.
