The mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, announced during a press conference that the returned territories of Ataturk Park will be used as a recreational area. The plan includes planting greenery and creating conditions for the relaxation of city residents and visitors.
Previously, the mayor had stated that 124 executive orders issued by local authorities regarding 198 properties have been revoked. A resolution defining the boundaries of Ataturk Park, spanning 107 hectares, was signed by Aibek Junushaliev. This decision aimed to reclaim 43 hectares of land allocated for construction back to the park.
The Department of Municipal Property Management, Land Use Control, and the October Administration have been tasked with returning the park's land plots within the boundaries set in the 1992 resolution. They are also responsible for dismantling any illegally constructed real estate within the park.
Member of the Jogorku Kenesh, Dastan Bekeshev, assured that homes within Ataturk Park will not be demolished. Established in 1957-1958 as a dendrological park of the Botanical Garden of the Kyrgyz SSR Academy of Sciences, the park was later transferred to the city executive committee in 1962 and renamed the "Friendship" Park in 1967. Its current name was adopted in 1995.
In the 1990s, part of the park was subjected to residential development, with construction peaking in the 2000s amidst scandals involving the sale of land within the park to high-ranking officials or their relatives for private housing.
