In 2023, Kyrgyzstan's prisons recorded 33 deaths, as announced by the head of the State Penitentiary Service, Askat Egemberdiev, during a plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh. The deceased were diagnosed with cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
According to the Prosecutor General, Kurmankul Zulushev, in 2024, the country's prisons saw a decrease with 12 registered deaths. "We have information on each case, each one is investigated and verified at a legal level," emphasized the Prosecutor General.
