in News / Kyrgyzstan - by

The press secretary of the president, Askat Alagozov, announced on his Facebook page that assistance will be provided to those affected by landslides in several villages in Kyrgyzstan due to recent heavy rains. Some locals are being temporarily relocated as a result.

While there have been reports of damage to buildings and courtyards, it is not of a widespread nature. The Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Transport, and other government agencies have sufficient resources to deal with the aftermath of the landslides, as stated by Alagozov.

Following President Sadyr Japarov's directive, once the Ministry of Emergency Situations assesses the extent of the damage caused by the natural disaster, appropriate assistance will be provided to the citizens affected.

Since April 20, 46 villages have been affected by landslides in the regions of Osh, Batken, Jalal-Abad, and Talas. A state of emergency has been declared in Osh, Jalal-Abad (in the Nookat district), and Talas. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives during the disaster: a man whose car was swept away by a mudflow and a teenager who was struck by lightning.
