Kyrgyzstan's Bishkek City Hall Rules Out Public Transport Fare Hike

in News / Kyrgyzstan - by

Bishkek City Hall has confirmed that there are no plans to increase public transport fares. The municipality emphasized this following a committee meeting where a deputy inquired about the profitability of new buses at current rates. The deputy mayor explained that buses do not cover their costs at present tariffs.

The deputy mayor highlighted that a fare increase to 25 soms could potentially make bus operations profitable in 8-10 years, given stable prices and exchange rates. It is crucial to note that these were preliminary forecasts, not the official stance of Bishkek City Hall.

The municipality clarified that they do not intend to raise public transport fares. Instead, they will focus on proper administration and optimizing enterprise expenses. This decision aims to ensure efficient operations without burdening commuters with higher ticket prices.
