Emergency Situation Declared in Suzak District, Kyrgyzstan Due to Flooding

in News / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Ministry of Emergency Situations has declared a state of emergency of the third degree in the Suzak district of the Jalal-Abad region due to heavy rains causing flooding in the Barpy, Kyzyl-Tuu, and Suzak villages from April 20 to 24.

The water level in the Kok-Art River has risen, increasing the risk of landslides in other settlements. Local residents are using motor pumps to remove water from their homes, and evacuation procedures are in place to guarantee their safety. Disinfection measures are being implemented in the affected areas, where the loss of animals and birds has been reported.

Specialized engineering equipment from the Ministry of Emergency Situations has been dispatched to clear flood channels. Following the heavy rains on April 24, around 150 residential buildings, 3 social facilities, 1 bridge, yards, and 50 hectares of farmland were flooded in the Tashtak, Kyzyl-Sengir, and Boston villages in the Kyzyl-Tuu Suzak district.

Furthermore, mudflows have affected Bazar-Korgon, Aksy, Ala-Buka, and Tash-Kumyra, leading to road and yard flooding. Ongoing efforts are underway to address these challenges on the ground.

Major General Boobek Ajikeev, Minister of Emergency Situations, visited the impacted areas on April 22-23 to evaluate the situation and issue directives for immediate response actions. Authorities are diligently working to lessen the impact of the natural disaster and ensure the safety and well-being of the affected population.
