«Waffle» road markings have been applied at six intersections. This was reported by the press service of the Bishkek City Hall.
It is noted that the markings will serve as an additional measure to discipline drivers who "jump" onto the intersection.
«Earlier, the cameras of the "Safe City" did not have the ability to identify the road situation, including instances of obstructing traffic at the intersection. Very often violators avoided punishment. Now, if a car is within the area of this marking for more than a certain time, it is automatically recorded as a violation,» the press service said.
If a violation is noticed by the Patrol Police officers, a protocol is drawn up on the spot and a fine is issued.
On the "waffle" marking, vehicles should not block the passage of other traffic participants for more than 5 seconds.
A driver who sees the grid on the road needs to calculate the flow speed and their own movement to avoid lingering on it and not obstructing others.
If for various reasons a vehicle is delayed at the intersection for more than 5 seconds and this is recorded by the camera, the vehicle owner will receive a fine.
«It is worth noting that the area of the "waffle" marking is not a place where stopping is prohibited altogether. There are exceptions. For example, to let a pedestrian cross when turning at the intersection or when turning left, where it is necessary to yield to oncoming traffic,» municipal officials added.
The "waffle" markings have been applied at the following intersections: - Manas Avenue - Kiev Street; - Manas Avenue - Toktogul Street; - Manas Avenue - Moscow Street; - Manas Avenue - Bokonbaeva Street; - Chui Avenue - Togolok Moldo Street; - Isanov Street - Toktogul Street.
The City Hall emphasizes that such measures are designed to improve the city's road infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion.
