Protests Erupt Over Milk Prices in Sokuluk and Belovodsk: Deputy Tumonbaev

in News / Kyrgyzstan - by

During a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Akylbek Tumonbaev announced that protests are taking place in Sokuluk and Belovodsk due to procurement prices for milk.

"We have adopted a resolution on procurement prices for milk. People have come to the parliament building asking when the document will start working," he said, demanding a report from the cabinet on the implementation of the resolution.

It is worth noting that last year, Akylbek Tumonbaev initiated a bill establishing a minimum price of 40 soms for purchasing milk from producers. However, the president returned it to the Jogorku Kenesh with objections. The document states that its provisions duplicate articles of the Law on Pricing, therefore, there is no need for the adoption of a bill regulating pricing for a specific product separately, and increasing the procurement cost of milk will lead to an increase in the price of dairy products and overall inflation.

A commission was established to revise the project. Seven months later, it had not made any progress, prompting the bill's author to draft a resolution. Despite objections from the head of state and the Ministry of Economy, the lawmakers adopted it.
