Bishkek Court Refuses Appeal to Save Kloop Media Foundation, Legal Battle Continues

in News / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Bishkek City Court refused to consider the appeal against the decision of the Oktyabrsky District Court to liquidate the Public Foundation Kloop Media. This information was reported by the editorial team in their Telegram channel.

According to the lawyer Nurbek Sydykov, the City Court stated that the deadline for filing the appeal had passed.

"However, representatives of Kloop Media stated that they filed the appeal in a timely manner but it was returned. We believe that this was done unjustly," he said.

Nurbek Sydykov added that the judges claimed the appeal was sent to the Ministry of Justice at the wrong address.

"In other words, there was a mistake in one digit - instead of 32, they wrote 39 on Molodoy Gvardii Street. I think there is only one Ministry of Justice on that street. Despite Kloop re-submitting the appeal immediately after it was returned, the City Court refused to reinstate the missed deadline. The previously filed motions were not granted," he explained.

The lawyer mentioned that Kloop Media disagrees with the City Court's decision and will appeal it.

Recall that on August 28th of last year, the Bishkek Prosecutor Emilbek Abdymanapov filed a lawsuit to liquidate the Kloop Media public foundation. The lawsuit stated that "a large part of the publications carry a negative character aimed at discrediting representatives of state and municipal authorities," and that "Kloop Media's publications contain hidden manipulations of public opinion, imposing non-reality-based negative processes, and create opposition to any undertakings of the current government."

The prosecutor cited several headlines and materials from Kloop.kg that, in the supervisory authority's opinion, sharply criticize the authorities. Additionally, the prosecutor's office believed that the public foundation had concealed a large sum of money.

In April 2024, the Oktyabrsky District Court issued a decision to liquidate the Public Foundation Kloop Media.
