Supreme Court to Propose Changes in Legislation on Compensation

in News / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Chairman of the Supreme Court, Zamirbek Bazarbekov, announced during an online meeting with local court chairpersons and judges that amendments related to the recovery of material damages and compensation for moral harm will be suggested. The focus is on the quality of work in the third stage of judicial reform, emphasizing the continued fight against incompetent and corrupt judges.

Bazarbekov demanded judges not only announce decisions but also ensure a practice of explaining the content to the parties involved. Furthermore, judges are instructed to hold press conferences on high-profile cases locally, similar to those conducted at the Supreme Court press center.

He stressed the importance of holding accountable those proven guilty of crimes while ensuring the innocence of those not proven guilty. Bazarbekov highlighted the need to address violations by law enforcement personnel and the responsibility of judges who make unjust decisions. He proposed amendments to enable compensation for damages and moral harm to be paid by the responsible law enforcement officers and prosecutors, rather than from the state budget.

The Chairman called for individual rulings to be issued and for timely enforcement when law enforcement officials violate the law. He emphasized the need to inform acquitted individuals of their right to seek compensation for damages. Judges who deliver unjust verdicts should also face legal consequences. Bazarbekov demanded accountability for authorities that allow legal violations to occur.
