The reconstruction of "Kokand" Airport in the Fergana region has been completed. On the morning of March 20, it welcomed its first technical flight from Tashkent, operated by an A320neo aircraft of Uzbekistan Airways.
According to the press service of Uzbekistan Airports, the regional airport has undergone reconstruction, including the extension of the runway to 2000 meters and the construction of a apron with two parking spaces for A320 and ATR-72-600 aircraft. Additionally, a new passenger terminal covering an area of 900 square meters and accommodating 100 people has been built.
The flight "demonstrated the full readiness of the airfield for receiving and dispatching aircraft, and the terminal for welcoming and servicing passengers," the statement said. Regular flights are scheduled to commence from April 1.
The airport ceased to accept civilian aircraft in 2001 and was solely used by the Uzbekistan Air Force.
