María Kastigio Rehina has begun her duties as the head of the UNICEF Representation in Uzbekistan. This was reported by the press service of the representation.
Prior to this appointment, María Kastigio Rehina served as the head of the UNICEF Representation in Croatia and led the UNICEF office in Paraguay.
She joined UNICEF in 2016. Previously, she was the director of UNAIDS in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru, head of the private sector partnerships department of UNAIDS in Switzerland, and the focal point for economic and social affairs in the executive office of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in the United States.
María Kastigio Rehina studied economics and international relations at Western Washington University in the state of Washington, USA, and obtained a master's degree in public administration and international relations from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, USA.
The previous head of the UNICEF Representation in Uzbekistan was Munir Mamedzade.
