In April, the exhibition project "Uzbekistan: Avant-Garde in the Desert" will open in two Italian cities, Venice and Florence. The exhibition, dedicated to the history of art in the first half of the 20th century, consists of two sections: "Form and Symbol" at Ca' Foscari University in Venice, and "Light and Color" at Palazzo Pitti in Florence.

Supported by the Fund for the Development of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan, the project features over 172 paintings and drawings from the first half of the 20th century, as well as objects of national decorative and applied art from the State Museum of Arts of Karakalpakstan named after Igor Savitsky and the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan.

The "Light and Color" section in Florence focuses on the image of Central Asia in the art of the first half of the 20th century, highlighting the Turkistan Avant-Garde and the transition to socialist realism. The exhibition showcases works by artists such as Alexander Volkov, Nikolai Karahan, and Elena Korovay.

In the Venetian section, "Form and Symbol," curators emphasize the influence of the avant-garde collection sent to the Tashkent Museum of Arts in 1921 on Central Asian painting. The exhibition presents works by Kandinsky, Klyun, Rodchenko, and other avant-garde artists who influenced the development of abstract art.

The project provides an opportunity for the international audience to learn about Igor Savitsky and his contribution to preserving and transmitting artistic heritage. Alongside Savitsky's works, the exhibition will feature archival photographs and multimedia installations.

The "Uzbekistan: Avant-Garde in the Desert" exhibition section "Light and Color" will be open in Florence from April 15 to July 29, while "Form and Symbol" will run from April 17 to September 29.
