A seminar organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with the Kazakh Agency for International Development (KazAID) took place in Almaty from April 16 to 19. The event aimed to share Japan's expertise in seismic safety measures with Central Asian and Caucasus countries.
Given Japan's experience as a seismically active country, its technologies and practices for mitigating earthquake impacts are invaluable. Specialists from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan were invited to participate in the seminar.
Japanese experts provided an extensive analysis of modern seismic isolation technologies, including global standards in the field. They discussed advanced methods and technologies used in Japan to create earthquake-resistant structures, showcasing examples of base isolation design that serve as a model for the global construction industry.
An important aspect of the seminar was the discussion on potential collaboration between Japan and Kazakhstan in seismic construction. Experts from both countries also deliberated recent earthquakes in Almaty and the Japanese city of Noto. Participants exchanged experiences, studied the scale of disasters, causes and consequences, as well as recovery and infrastructure reinforcement measures post-seismic events.
By delving into these cases, seminar attendees gained a better understanding of seismic risks and collectively developed strategies to prevent and manage similar situations in the future.
