Changes in Uzbekistan: New Fees for Temporary Import of Foreign Cars

in News / Uzbekistan - by

In Uzbekistan, the procedure for calculating the fee for the temporary import of foreign cars has been changed. This is provided for by the joint resolution of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Internal Affairs dated May 1st.

The changes are made to the Regulations on the procedure for customs clearance of vehicles transported across the customs border.

Currently, foreign citizens can enter Uzbekistan in their own car without paying duties and taxes for a period of up to 90 days within one calendar year. However, the car can only be used for non-commercial purposes. After the 90-day period expires, the car must be taken out of the country.

If the 90-day period expires, foreign citizens can extend the stay of their car in Uzbekistan. A fee is charged for this. It was set at 0.7% of the base calculation value (BCV) per horsepower of the vehicle per day.

From now on, this amount will be 1 BCV for each day of delay in export. For example, with a BCV rate of 340 thousand sums, extending the period for one day for a 100 hp car used to cost 238 thousand sums, and for 30 days — 7.14 million sums. Now this amount will be 10.2 million sums. If the car's horsepower exceeds 143 hp, importing the car based on the new calculation will be cheaper than the old one.

The calculation of the 90-day period now starts from the day of temporary import of the vehicle.
