During the Organizational Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on April 9, 2024, elections were held for the subsidiary bodies of the Council. The official website of Turkmenistan's foreign ministry reported that participants unanimously supported Turkmenistan's candidacy, electing it as a full member of the Commission on Social Development for the years 2025-2029. Turkmenistan will continue to carry out its functions as a member of the Commission on Social Development, a role it has held since its election in 2020.
ECOSOC is one of the main bodies of the UN, facilitating cooperation in the economic and social spheres. Since 2023, Turkmenistan has been a member of the Commission on Population and Development. In 2021, Turkmenistan was elected as a member of the Executive Board of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women for the years 2022-2024.
