Employees of the Office of the Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan took part in a training seminar organized by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) on the issue of statelessness. This was reported by the online publication Centralasia.news.
The speakers at the seminar included Rano Saidumarova, Senior Legal Adviser at UNHCR, Sergey Gaina, Statelessness Adviser for UNHCR in Central Asia, and Hanifa Karimi, Legal Adviser for UNHCR.
The seminar covered methodologies for identifying vulnerable individuals among internally displaced persons and stateless persons in places of detention and at borders, as well as international practices for reducing and preventing statelessness. Representatives of UNHCR highly praised the National Action Plan for the Elimination of Statelessness for the years 2019-2024.
